Estimates for a comfortable layout (room size includes aisles and a dance floor / stage allowance). Add a bar, buffet, or dance floor and you'll want more. Lay it all out with the free seating chart maker.
Divide your guest count by the seats per table: a 60-inch round seats 8, a 72-inch round seats 10, and an 8-foot banquet table seats 8. Always round up, and add a few accessory tables for the cake, gifts, and sign-in. This calculator does it for you.
Plan on roughly 10–12 square feet per guest for a seated dinner, about 8 for theater-style seating, and around 6 for a standing cocktail reception. Add more if you want a dance floor, bar, buffet, or stage.
One per guest for seated and theater layouts. A standing cocktail reception needs far fewer — usually just some lounge and accessibility seating rather than a chair for everyone.
